i would recommend you check out http://www.mobil1.com and read what they have to say about their product. my references to mobil 1 in other makes was, again, just my opinion that such use reflected a pretty competant product. i will say, however, as related to my earlier post to Joe T, that if you're running M1 you really don't need to change until 5K, and again, may be able to get away with 7-10, depending on your habits. i split town and hiway miles pretty evenly, so i'll go with 7K between changes.
but to answer your question, are all synth's formulated the same way, and will ANY synth do okay for changes at 3K? well, they're NOT all the same, but they should do just fine for changes every 3K, since their polymer structure is more stable and consistent than fossils.
however, will mobil 1 be worth the money every 3K? in my opinion and that of several others, no. changing mobil 1 every 3K is a waste of $$. so if valvoline or Q-state has a good, cheaper synth that you can afford to replace every 3K, by all means do so. but if you want to extend the period between changes and use a synth that, from what i've read, understand, and experienced, will make your engine perform better, longer, go with mobil 1.
good luck!
