The mechanic was able to put the spark plug back in. He said the threads in the cylinder were not damaged.
He said he has seen this before, but not with a Honda. He said over time, it must have worked loose, and worked it's way to the top of the threads, which is why they were not damaged when it blew out. Fuuny thing is she was planning on bringing the car down to me this weekend because it wasn't running right, so I would have found it then. But, of course, this is how it always happens...
So they put new plugs in and a new set of wires since the one that was attached to the blown one was cut from hitting something when it blew out (only $136 as opposed to having the head machined and re-drilled).
My mom-in-law was ever so grateful that that was all it was. Guess it's another score for hubby in wifey's family!!!!!!!
