Although I do not remember the configuration on a '93 9K specifically, the only switch I have ever seen on the body of a 9000 A/C compressor is the clutch switch. The coolant pressure switch is located under the "aquarium lid" on or near the dryer. The temperature switch is located in the A/C control unit and receives its signal from a temperature sensor on the dash. There is also a temperature switch that operates on a mechanical principle that is designed to limit how cold the evaporator can get to prevent freezing. It has a bulb sensor attached to the evaporator fins.
If you are providing power to the clutch switch, you are overcoming one or more of the protection devices in your A/C system. It is not possible to tell from your posting if the A/C was recharged properly (low coolant) or one of the switches or control unit has actuallly failed. It would be best to take the car to a reputable A/C shop - there are many in FL, I'm sure - before you (potentially) burn out the compressor.
