My greatest Saab experience? 10 years ago when, on my first time driving on black ice, I spun out for over 250 feet and basically wrapped my 2-door 900 around a telephone pole (from the front-right fender almost all the way into the front-passenger's space).
Car - destroyed. MY injury? I kinda knocked my knee into the gearshift a little and had a small bruise. The cars are safe, no question.
As for 900 vs. 9000, turbo vs. non turbo, I agree with Ari. I'm just as likely to be destructive in a minivan as I am in a 9000 turbo (my current car). If driving a turbo taught me anything (after the initial "Whoa, neat!" feeling cooled down), it was to respect the power of an automobile. Where I used to boost into turbo ALL the time for the fun of it, I usually only do it now if I need to pass a truck, merge quickly, and so on. I've learned to respect what the added power can do for me.
If you had to pick between a 900 and a 9000 (I've had 2 of each so far), definitely go 9000. You'll be happy you did when she starts moving into college, needs to help YOU move things, and so on. There is so much room in the trunk of a 9000 it's ridiculous. 900's are GREAT, but space-wise they can feel a little cramped.
And if you're worried about her having too many people in the car, I wouldn't spend too much time thinking about it ... minivan or Saab, there will be at least eight people in that car at one time at some point :)
