Should we buy this Saab?

I'm thinking of getting a 1990 Saab 9000-S for my 17-year-old son. The car in question has 150K miles but A/C is broke due to a slow (?) freon leak. Also needs new motor for pass side elec window. Has had some rust repairs. Should this A/C thing be a deal killer? The owner's asking $2000. He's had the car about 8 years and says he bought it with 40K on it and I got the feeling it was from a mechanic who repairs wrecked cars, although that wasn't definitively spelled out (he also said one of the back doors had been replaced before he got it). He has two other Saabs so I guess he likes the car.
I love the idea of my son driving a Saab due to safety issues but since he's buying the car with his own money...and repairs also coming out of his own funds...he also needs a car that won't cost an arm and a leg to maintain. Any thoughts from you experts out there? And is there anything in particular we should look out for on this vehicle?
