On saturday afternoon my beloved, rusty 900 decided not to shift anymore. I was with my wife on a fun trip 100 miles from home. We left the car all alone in a motel parking lot and called relatives until we found someone free.

Today I drive up to that motel with a buddy after picking up a new master cylinder at Andrew's of Princeton. The master was beautiful and took 20 minutyes to install. Bleeding (even with my beautiful pressure bleeder) was a real bitch. Eventually I had my buddy pump the clutch pedal while I watched the engine compartment. Squish, squish, squish... There was a hole in the pressure line running from the master to the slave. We made the hour trip back to andrews and bought another beautiful new part. Bleeding was easier the second time but I still couldn't get the pedal feel right. After pumping the pedal, bleeding the system from the bottom and top, and p[umpingh some more I was left with a clead clutch hydraulic system that seemed unnaturally stiff. In addition to this stiffness I found that the clutch only engaged at the very bottom of the pedal's travel.

Driving home was easy (I shifted up to 5th - that was it) until we hit rush hour traffic north of Minneapolis. By the time I got home I was unable to shift at all without vigorously pumping the pedal.

So here's a question for the board. The car has 120K miles on the clock. The clutch hydraulics are all new (slave has 3000 miles master and hose have ~100 miles) I assume the clutch disc and plate are original. Would a worn out friction disc cause the symptoms I've described when combined with new hydraulics? Is it just that I did a bad job bleeding the system?
