I would say that the timing chain should have been done when the head gasket was done. It is just one of those things that as long as you are there, that deep in the motor you do it and if it wasn't done then I don't think much about the whole deal or the "mechanic" that did the work. I have a 91 9000 s and a 93 cse non turbo. I just bought the 93 and I like it but it has been a pain. I had to replace the ACC unit $ 60.00 on ebay, I also had to replace the 2 speed fan used $75.00. A few other things but the big thing is that it uses 1 quart of oil per 1k. My 91 9000 s doesn't lose a drop but has 203k and is gettig rusty or I would keep it forever.
