The problem I found most common was they didn't comply to the mounting method required for the standard U bracket fog light mount. What's required is a light that uses a single bolt method. The advantage to an aftermarket light, besides the price, is that typically the single bolt ones are designed to hang from the bumper, so when you use the vertical U bracket mounting surface, the mounting bolt becomes the lowest part of the assembly. This raises the light up an inch or two, which though slightly detrimental to performance, greatly decreases the chance of breakage. My stock fogs had the mounting bolt straight back in the center of the housing, making the fog light the very lowest part of the car, including the air dam, which is already too low IMHO.

If you can find them, the Durimex/Delta lights are quite excellent for the money, and are actually European spec lights in most models. They're certainly the equal of the stock Bosch fogs, yet at less than 1/4 the price. They also offer lights with metal housings if you want to go crazy with the wattage, which I don't recommend on a fog light, but could be good for driving lights/long range.
