Could Hyperboost cause turbo lag?

Here's the scenario: I recently installed a BSR Stage 3 ECU, complete JT 3" exhaust, K&N air filter, and new NGK plugs, gapped to 0.90".

I also installed a Hyperboost diverter valve (Stratmosphere) in place of the stock BPV on Saturday. To my amazement, the BPV was actually okay (I thought it would have been ripped internally). I applied suction to the nipple-end of it, and there was plenty of resistance available. I even stuck my finger up into the bottom of it to feel if the valve was going up and down, and it most certainly was.

Here's what's happening now: as I would drive the car enthusiastically (trying to get an adaptation run accomplished since installing the re-mapped ECU), my boost guage would be pinned beyond the red (this was with the stock BPV), and I would have slight turbo-lag (which is surprising since I was told by BSR it would be non-existent with the new ECU, and since I have an auto there isn't much to begin with anyway). When I drove with the Hyperboost, my boost guage now stays within the slashed yellow-red area (where it used to be with the stock ECU and BPV), and I have a lot of turbo lag now. The car actually felt faster/stronger with the stock BPV.

Can anyone explain what is happening? Is the Hyperboost not good for my application now? If so, what should I use since I assume my stock BPV will be blown to bits soon with the extra boost the new ECU is putting out. Is a Viggen-type of BPV a better route for me?

Also, do I need to reset the new ECU now that I installed the Hyperboost? Might the adaptation run have been completed while the old BPV was in the car (I used it for about 1 week, daily commute to work, 30 miles total per day), and it now needs to be re-adapted with the Hyperboost?
