I changed the plugs in my '98 about 2 months ago. The car was running great, but I didn't know when the last owner had changed them, and it had been 10K miles that I drove the car since buying it. The old ones were gapped to 1.10+ (they may have been slightly larger). I re-gapped the new ones to 0.90, since I had read an earlier post stating that a smaller gap gave better performance. Well, since running with the new plugs, I've noticed slight backfiring noises and popping coming from the tailpipe at idle. Nothing serious, but noticeable when standing at the rear of the car while it's idling.
I think I will go home and re-gap to 1.10, and see if it smooths things out. Sounds like it will from what I'm reading here.
