Reason I ask is because I've been following this plug-gap discussion for some time now and have tried out both gaps.

I have a '98 CSET auto. Mods include complete JT 3", K&N air filter in stock box, Hyperboost diverter valve, and BSR Stage-3 ECU. I always use 93 octane fuel.

With all of the mods (minus the ECU), I changed the plugs a few months ago. The car was running fine beforehand, I just didn't know how old the plugs were. When I took out the old plugs, they were all gapped to 1.1mm. I installed the new NGK's and gapped them to 0.9mm. Right from the start, I noticed a SLIGHT misfire at idle (could hear it from the tailpipe and see tach needle jump a little--not much, however). I drove this way thinking (from what I had read on this board about the smaller gap) that it was okay.

I then installed the re-mapped ECU (2 months later, 3 weeks ago), and left the plugs at 0.9mm. I still had the slight misfire at idle, and noticed that at full boost (stock guage in red zone and beyond), the boost guage would then jump to the slashed yellow/red zone and stay there. This led me to believe that my stock BPV was giving up under the higher boost pressure now. I installed the Hyperboost valve (piston-style), and the guage still showed the jump from high- to lower- boost pressure (obviously, not caused by the valve).

I recently read here how people were having good experiences with the larger gap (1.1mm), so I re-gapped the plugs to this. Since then, I have NO misfire at all, the tach needle does not jump, and my boost guage stays in the red without jumping the the slashed yellow/red area at high-boost levels.

I have not had a chance to have the car dyno'd to see where the optimum boost is being produced (whether with 0.9mm or 1.1mm), but just from what I'm seeing and feeling, the 1.1mm seems to be the best. The car even feels faster and stronger with the 1.1mm gap.

Does this have any correlation between the car being a CSE (Garrett turbo)? It seems that I've only seen this discussion with people who have AERO's.

If, in fact, the car does run better with the 1.1mm, am I also destroying my DI cassette faster (from what I'm now reading)?

Joe
