I have a plea for help for anyone in the Rochester, NY area.

I've got a 1993 9000 CDE, normally aspirated 2.3l engine.

I'm trying to replace the heater blower motor and heater core. I've got
all the parts (from eeuroparts.com), and all the tools. I've got the writeup from Quasi's site. I've got the Haynes manual.

But, I'll be damned if I can get the motor housing out. I remove everything
I theoretically need to remove (I do not seem to have the sheetmetal piece
that Quasi's writeup talks about.) I cannot quite remove one of the heater
core hoses (the hose clamp is all but inaccessible). I can move the evaporator housing so that it disconnects from the motor housing. I found
2 plastic clips (one on either side of the housing, way at the bottom),
and wedged them open with long screwdrivers.

Despite all this, I can barely budge the housing, and I certainly cannot
rotate the bottom forward to disengage it from the rest of the unit. There
must be a clip or something that I'm missing that I cannot locate.

The Haynes manual is worse than useless it says "Release the retaining clips and unscrew the mounting screws (as applicable)," without offering the slightest information on where the blasted things might be located!!

I just finished putting everything back together (twice, since I forgot to
reconnect the flap control arm the first time around...), and I've given
up for today.

So, my plea is this: Is there anyone in the area who's familiar with this
procedure and would be interesting in giving me a hand (or a smack in the
head when you figure out what I'm doing wrong)? Suitable compensation can
be arranged (money, dinner, beer, whatever), and I've got the garage space
to work in.

Any takers, or words of advice and/or encouragement?

Thanks,

mike houwers
