Man do I know that frustration you're feeling right about now. I went through the same process only on the olde year cars and it's harder to do than the newer ones so I've heard. For me taking things apart was bad, then putting them back together was even worse, since like you I had to do it twice. Either way,

"I do not seem to have the sheetmetal piece that Quasi's writeup talks about."

The statment you said above I do believe is the key to your success the next around. I've looked under the hood of a few SAAS's and I can tell you that this false wall that makes up the forward edge is the there and needs to be rmoved. I don't know the exact number of screws that holds it in but I do believe there were 2-3 of them. Like one or two of them on each side. THIS FALSE WALL SITS JUST UNDER THAT VERY LARGE PIECE OF WEATHER STRIPPING THAT RUNS ACROSS THE AQUARIUMS FORWARD EDGE. In the pictures on his site, you should be able to have seen this, or at least saw that he removed this part. Once this part is removed the entire content of the aquarium will be open at the fron side and you'll be able to get that housing outts there although it will still be a topugh one. Something else I remember others here saying was that the Throttle boddy should also be removed. If you can remove the intake manifold that would allow even more roomd although I will say that I did neither, I just pushed, pulled, and sweared a whole lot..

Hope that helps,

See Ya
Phil
