It could not reasonably be done. That does not mean that it is impossible of course, just that it does not make sense to do. The 9k 2.0L engine is quite tough, but it would require much higher compression as a diesel. If the block could take this increase in compression (which it might) you would still need a completely new head. Diesels have direct injection (ie, the fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber) and require a different injection pump running at much higher pressures. You'd also need different pistons, rods, and crank shaft. They would all have to be much stronger.
Basically you probably would only be able to use the block, if even that. Only a shop that makes engines could do this - at a very high cost.
BTW, gas engines are much nicer in a car - they are faster, lighter, quiter, and don't have the vibrations inherent in a diesel engine.
SAAB's were originally two-stokes. They are the lightest and most powerful engine for their size. They also have a powerband "kick." When it was no longer commerically feasible to use a two-stroke, SAAB went to a Turbo - which drives much like a two-stroke with the "powerband" kick. A diesel is as far from a twostroke as you can get in terms of weight and power distribution
