I am trying to remember what you have for cars. I seem to remember a 95 with a V-6 and a 92T. I would expect the anti-frost switches on both to be very similar, if not identical.
The switch will open and close during normal operation. Particularly if the ACC is set to LO. I would keep the ACC set to 66 and above (don't ask me what that is in C) until you get the switch straightened out to prevent freezing of the evaporator. You might have unscrewed the switch far enough that something internal came apart. I think the switch should be able to be removed without discharging the AC system, though I have not done it.
It could be that you had a switch that was out of adjustment and a quirky relay.
