I am about to get a subwoofer for a 1993 CDE. Right now the car has an Alpine CD head unit (CDA-7844, 40 watts x 4) with an Alpine 12-disc changer in the back. The receiver has subwoofer outputs, a toggle and sub levels can be set at 60, 70, 80 or 100 Hz. The speakers are stock in their entirety. The subwoofer I was looking at was a 12-inch dual-coil Rockford Fosgate in an approx. 1 cubic foot box with a Fosgate 200M amplifier. I listened to it in the store today with a comparable deck and can't "auralize" what it would sound like in my car. Can someone who knows more about this please tell me what I should be listening for and if this Rockford Fosgate would suffice? I've never had a subwoofer in a car and am not looking to win any contests or embarass my passengers. Nor do I need to herald my arrivals and departures. I just want good sound with more low end. Thanks.
