Not to add to this growing list of past people's miseries, but I went through something similar 2 years ago with my beloved factory-showroom condition Mica Blue '97 CSET, that I only had for 5 months, but grew to love immediately. Unfortunately, someone decided to make a left turn from the far-right lane of a two-lane road directly in front of me (we were both travelling in the same direction). Even though the car sustained heavy front-end damage (causing the air bags to go off as well) without any mechanical damage, the insurance co. totalled it (citing $14K in damages which exceeded 85% of the book value of the car, which is how it's actually done).
In any event, I had to have a rental car, and demanded that the other guy's insurance pay for it, especially since the police report showed he was at fault. They did. It makes no difference what kind of coverage you have when it is the other person's fault (that is what the "Liability" portion of insurance is for). You can go through your insurance to speed things up, but then you have to pay the deductible first (if you have one), and wait until your insurance is reimbursed by his insurance to receive the deductible back.
Since both insurance co's. are one and the same, it will make the whole process quicker, as long as the same insurance handler is processing both claims, or at the least, that both claims are being handled within the same office. If not, then it will take just as long as if the co's. were different.
As for if your car is totalled, the previous posts did have good advice/tips. I have no clue what the book value of a '93 CDE is, but given the year and mileage of it, I have a feeling it will be totalled, especially since it costs a lot to fix a Saab (very few, if any, aftermarket companies available for "cheaper" parts).
If you do decide to buy it back and fix it yourself, understand that the title will be marked "Salvage", meaning it sustained enough damage to consider it totalled at some point in its life. Doesn't mean much to you since you know the car, but if you ever go to re-sell it, many people stay away from cars with titles like that.
Sorry to hear of your misfortune. Hopefully you'll be back behind the wheel of another 9K shortly...
