Further info/explanation/experience/questions on boost Posted by Bill Homer [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Need Trionic Module, JimO, Thu, 6 Nov 2003 10:09:24 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have tried and though about a few other things.
1. With the "W" hose disconnected, the car will boost into the red zone, drives like a bat-out-of-hell at the low speeds that I tried it at, even at moderate throttle, but I haven't taken it up to fuel cutoff. My stand-alone pressure gauge only goes to 10 psi, so I haven't measured how much boost I can get, but driven this way the dashboard gauge indicates noticeably higher than 6psi base boost, which is about 2/3 into the yellow zone. I therefore assume that the turbo and related hose system is OK.
2. Cruise control works properly. When switched on, the "CRUISE CONTROL" light will illuminate, functions properly and will disengage with a tap of the brake pedal. Can I therefore eliminate the switches on the brake and clutch pedals as suspect?
3. BCP solenoid buzzes at some low frequency, 70 - 90 Hz when ignition is on, engine off. Newer solenoid is actually quieter than the old one with a short. I cleaned it out with WD-40.
4. Car has not blown the APC fuse while I have owned it, although it had CURIOUSLY been replaced with a 25 amp fuse when I got the car (10 is standard). Hmmmmm. I noticed this fuse in conjunction with removing power to the ECU before doing an adaption run, now find that it doesn't make any difference for that. So, the "APC" fuse is only for the line fron the ECU to the BCP Solenoid? Perhaps this fuse is a good clue that something is amiss? Note that this wasn't the only incorrect fuse, though there were just a few, i.e. power locks, windows. Previous owner may have just used what he had, or ????????
5. If I can get my hands on a scope (I'm a former EE, know how to use one), what will I be looking for? Are the waveforms on either solenoid coil supposed to be of similar shape but different durations? What shape, square wave, sine wave, etc.? I assume that it has to be a portable scope that can be connected while driving (3rd gear or more), or can I do this while stationary and use a regular, plug-in scope?
Thanks for your help, I think we're getting somewhere!
