Thanks for your help - that's kind of what I expected goes on. I would assume that two sets of pulses are being set up on the three wires that go to the solenoid, with either a common +V or ground on the center wire. I also assume that as the pulse width on one side grows, the width on the other side shrinks. I only hope that the non-wastegate-side pulse (the side that pulls the solenoid to open the passage between C and R) to the coil gets some pulse, however narrow, at all times.
I guess the only open issue is whether this can be seen with the car stationary, where I know that boost is limited - a manual transmission car has to be in 3rd gear or higher to get above base boost.
Now to find a scope!!!
