It quit today, so I had to go work on the car before things warm up for the weekend, It stopped completely and measured ~4K ohms. I could get it to start by spinning it a little to a better spot on the commutator. The ACC is OK, providing a 0-5Volt continuously variable signal at pin 2 of the controller. And the transistor is OK, as I suspected. There seems to be a problem in the controller electronics, which causes it to have very high gain. The output goes from fully off at 144 mv to fully on at 197 mv. There is a TA75358 dual op amp at the input; I'm going to try and fix it while waiting for the new motor and heater core to arrive.
