Start with learning how to work the clutch alone in a parking lot than add feeding gas in. Next start by putting their hand on the shifter, put your hand on top of theirs and show them how the spring loading works. Give them plenty of parking lot time until they have this phase down pat. The biggest problem they have next is remebering what gear they are in and what to shift to next. Tell them to forget reverse and first gear since they only use that for the first few feet. Forget fifth gear since that is only for the highway. For residential areas (25mph) think second or third gear. For secondary roads (45mph) think third or fouth. I do hope you aren't going to let your son drive your 145mph car alone--get an old 900 S.
