Nothing called "DTM" as far as I know Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] (#112) [Profile/Gallery] (more from SWEDECAR) on Sun, 18 Jul 2004 11:16:18 In Reply to: DTM??, bstan, Sat, 17 Jul 2004 19:33:39 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
On a 92 (US) you have DI/APC for ignition and turbo boost control, LH for fuel managment system, ASR for shifting/kick down function (auto), ETS for throttle management, ABS for the brakes, ACC for air condition.
All those are in some ways hooked up together with one or more wires sending signals crisscross.
On top of this you have alarm, seat memory, SRS, and probably a couple of more that I don't remember right now.
I have said before that one reason why some "techs" say it's impossible to clear the codes is that they don't go into every computer and clear the codes and check the proper "coding". That is neccessary to be able to run the calibration sequence (which some "techs" also say is impossible.
One word about different names on stuff, one mechanic might be working more with another brand of cars and uses lingo that is specific to that brand.
For instance, no other brand than Saab uses a Trionic computer, even though all cars have similar computers doing almost the same work. BMWs is called DME. Another brand calls it a ECM or PCM.
They try to standardize the names but it is a slow process.
ECU is suppose to be a standard overall name of all different computers but you still need to put a name in front like LH, ETS, Motronic or something.
Cheers
