Conjecture about slow failure

My 92-9kT 5speed/TCS with 107k miles and only one (1) original O2 sensor appears it might have a slowly failing O2 sensor (no CEL warning lights).
In my latest California smog test, my Hydocarbon-ppm (HC-ppm) at idle (866 rpm) had increased by almost 10 times since the previous test 2 years ago.
At 2500 rpm the HC-ppm increase is only 3 times as worse as the test 2 years ago.
I'm assuming HC-ppm and NOx refer to approximately similiar measurement criteria.
