The O2 sensor has a range it is spec'd for and it either works or not(CEL light) I have read too many times people replacing them at 60K as a maintenance item and say their gas mileage went WAY up, hogwash! If the sensor becomes carbon'ed up or has issues that prevent it from working properly, the CEL light will immediately illuminate. A misfire is the most common way for CEL to come one because it blows raw fuel past the sensor and it does not like that.
