On a '94, they are Polyurethane .... if I correctly interpret the "PUR" code stamped in large letters on the inside. I'm not sure about the material of original body style bumpers, as on your '92, and it may not be the same. On my '83 900 (which might be a similar material) I used a hair dryer blower to heat and reshape a dent in the bumper somewhat successfully (not perfect), but I know that the reformability of plastic is very dependent on its base material - polyurethane does not reshape with heat.
I have found and purchased a kit for bumper repair, 3M™ Automix™ EZ Sand Flexible Parts Repair Kit 05895, but have not had the chance to try it out yet. A local body shop uses a similar material from SEM or SCM(?), but it is not available in small quantities. I have a clean crack in my front bumper, and am hoping to get away with a patch and no paint. 3M Customer Service suggested that I will need to put a patch on the inside of the bumper using fiberglass cloth. At $38 for the kit, I hope that it works!
