you are correct that parts start to go in those large intervals.....but there are smaller problems that will nickel and dime us do death in the mean time....bushings, wheels bearings, CV boots/joints, transmission, electrica switches, etc etc,.......stuff that is not necessarily mileage dependant, but sometimes based on possible neglect, or even weather. Like any 10+ year old car.
the engine themselves on the other hand DO last an exceptional amount of time. my '88 has yet need a rebuild at 320K km and it has been boosted to 20psi for 2/3 of it's life. Still provides reliable driving,,,,,but all the 'stuff' that goes has been replaced 50K ago:-))
