Your ticking sound as explaned now sounds like the fuel injectors being opened and closing.Do the screw driver trick each one of the injectors to confirm, and also see if you can hear any differences between them.If you hear a difference where most are a sharp click, and one is not you have found a dirty injector.Yes "Techron" is the best product to use every 5000 miles on your normal driving routine. It works by a solvation process and needs a normal driving routine to clean best.Don't pour it in on a trip because it won't clean as effectively,as during short run between shut down periods.
You should have a stable idle,no lumpy idle should be present. If you do still have a poor idle, please do a compression test to dertermine your engines basic health.
