I've had 5 Saabs, starting with a 2.0L '74 99. One c900, and 3 9000. All 9ks have reached the 100k range, with the highest at 190k. I never used oil between changes in any of the cars. Some dripped a bit out of the valve cover, and one had a small leak around the oil pump that I never fixed.
I've never added oil after changing. Granted, I tended to change every 3k when using dino oil, but have doubled that now that I'm using syn. There is rarely any drop in oil level at change time, unless I'm doing serious travel. Then maybe a quart.
That is my experience with the Saab 2.0/2.3L engines. You could be burning the oil, and that would be my bet if you are not seeing oil in your antifreeze. Sometimes the oil ring gets stuck, allowing blow by in the cylinder. If compression is good, you might try one of the 'miracle' oil treatments to see if a ring can be freed up.
