..in getting it back to work. First of all it is incredibly hard to open, and you almost certainly will break some of the tabs holding it together. And it needs to be shut tight again in order to work properly....
I was quite unimpressed by the mechanism to start/stop the movement: a small gear holding back a spring loaded contact from getting 12v. This gear will turn a bit when you pull the stalk, just enough to let the contact flip back and 12v will run to the motor. The gear makes one turn and then pushes the contacat open again, stopping the wiper. It is quite fiddly; adjusting the contact, cleaning and re-seating might make it work for a while (or longer).
I'm a masochist, I will give it a second try shortly. Gotta take the headlight out anyway, as a mysterious hole has appeared in the lens.
If you don't care about the wiper function and just don't want to look stupid, you might as well turn the wiper: flip back the cap where the wiper meets the axle, undo the nut (8mm socket), take the wiper off and put it back in the normal resting position. Put the nut back on. That looks much better! 30 seconds of work.
good luck,
Jan Geert
