or an early nonturbo 9-5, even in good shape, should be easy to find and not much $$$ because nonturbos are not much in demand.
Rationale:
Nonturbo -- because I would not want my kids driving with 254 ft lbs available underfoot; I remember the dumb stuff I did when I was 16.
9000 or 9^5 -- for crashworthiness.
I don't think that the GM900 or any of the Japanese cars is as crashworthy as a 9000 or 9^5. I love Subarus but would not want my kids driving one.
C900 nonturbo would be another possible choice, but clean ones are now almost impossible to find now, and even if you could find one you could probably get a 9000 for the same or less money.
JMHO, good luck, and tell her to be home by 10!
