To keep or not to keep the 9000 - that is the question.

I'm approaching the largest question a 9k owner can have:
I am going to weather the storm of a tranny replacement? I can see it coming with the tell tale bearing noises and syncro wear.
'90 9k turbo, 5-speed, 110,000 miles.
I live in Alaska, so parts, shops, and shipping are all limited and/or expensive. Here are my options that I've identified:
1) Buy an Eriksson rebuild when the inevitable happens? I imagine with parts and labor it will be around $2k.
2) Buy a parts car that might magically have a good tranny? That would be handy for many reasons, but I imagine the tranny won't be in much better condition than mine. Cost? Who knows? $500 - 1,000 I guess. They aren't too common up here.
3) Buy a new 9k and use mine as a parts car? But mine is really too nice for that. Other than a small ding I've put in the back corner, it's in amazing shape for a 15-year old car. Besides, if I went new, it's probably be an Aero or something newer that isn't very compatible with my '90.
4) Well....no one on this BB is going to say sell it and buy something other than a 9k.....although a WRX would be a lot easier to get parts and service on up here. Keep in mind my cabin has no garage and my DIY skills are moderate at best (although improving with time I hope).
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. These thoughts are eating away at me.
