Don't feel let down by your car. After all, you operate the thing in a fairly harsh climate. That tranny oil doesn't warm up quickly like engine oil does, so I would expect reduced longevity for trannies in the far north. The tranny in my '88 9kt has been making soft whirring noises for the last 25K or so. I've learned to ignore them. But then I'm not getting signs of synchro wear.
If you do need a rebuild, better to have someone do it locally who knows that tranny, rather than an Eriksson. Eriksson only replaces synchros if they're thinner than specs, so you can have some parts near the end of their service life inside that rebuilt unit. I just had a new mainshaft bearing put in my Eriksson rebuilt after it only had 35K miles on it.
So I would recommend continuing to drive it, but have all your ducks in a row when you need a tranny rebuild, so you can get it done quickly.
