Fuel consumption with kayak on roof.

Hi Noel, I carried the kayak flat on roof racks but my kayak is a sea kayak and is narrow and streamlined in shape. The 32 mpg economy was achieved on the return leg of the trip which was an improvement on the 28.5 mpg I got on the first leg. I am wondering whether the long drive cleaned the O2 sensor and thus improved the economy. The highway I travelled on was essentially flat with very little traffic and I drove with economy in mind.
