Low oil level or low oil pressure? Posted by Ari [Email] (#2847) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ari) on Wed, 9 Feb 2005 05:52:23 In Reply to: sludge, Chris S., Tue, 8 Feb 2005 13:24:53 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Sludge does indeed exist on the 9000. I own a 9000 where the first owner didn't do enough oil changes, and the poor second owner had to put in a new engine. Thankfully, I'm #3. It has a lot to do with that 'Change oil every 10K miles except in harsh service' in the Manual. What they don't tell you is that harsh service includes driving the car.
I'm curious about some things. It's 3K miles after what? Your last oil change? And how do you know you've got sludge? And is it low oil level or low oil pressure?
Namely, are you a quart low 3K miles after you last checked, at your last oil change? Not great, but no big shakes for a 150K mile car. I'd feed that thirst all the way to 250K. And what is the evidence of sludge? This isn't a challenge, I just want to make sure that we're talking the same thing.
