The boot is messy, and getting the snap ring out and the CV back together can be a pain, especially on later models. It's certainly doable, but the whole axle is much quicker and cleaner. It's a balance of time and patience versus cost and convenience I guess. That said, I don't know where to get an axle for my '87. Advance seems to have the wrong part, and eEuro doesn't seem to carry it.
