Rmc I hope you do understand-I don't want you to put large amounts of money into this car and not get the return out of it.One of 4 9000's i have is a 88 turbo 2L,i prefer this car and it's motor over the others 2.3T liter cars. The no air bag and adjustable steering wheel is a plus IMHO.When in tune it will start and run before the motor turns 1/2 a revolution, where as the DI 2.3L motors take 2 revolutions just to reach the point where a plug will fire.
The 88 because of it's age - there is a lot more mechcanical problems that can be off to screw things up for you. I am concerned you may be in a little over your knowledge base.If you have done what i suggested the injectors should clean up and not be a problem. The injectors don't clog up when they sit,but they can develop a varnish deposit on the internals that won't allow them to open and close as quickly as they should. The spray pattern my be off;rather than a very fine spray, they may develop a star spray stream that is hard to burn in the engine.
Have you yet run the car on the road to see how it runs at off idle to mid range, and at high speed under a load, too see if other problems are present. If so;how does it preform. I don't have enough needed infomation about the general condition of your motor to be that concerned with a rich mixture at idle if the car was mine. If prehaps you have some sticking valves intake and/or exhaust, the best thing to do would be to run the engine up and down in the RPM range under a load and find that out now, rather than later. To be able to tune an engine is more complex than just looking for certain valves at specific devices, that is what my concerns are for you.
