I bought an 89s that had had an auto to manual conversion. It leaked oil seriously out of the passenger side output seal. Turns out the intermediate shaft carrier bearing bracket had not been changed over during the conversion. I changed the bracket, replaced the seal and bearing, and rebuilt the bearing seat with JB weld. Almost 30k miles since, so far so good.

My son has a 95ng900 SET which he drives at least 250 miles a week. He lost reverse in the transmission, drove about four months without reverse, got another tranny from the junkyard which leaks oil through the input shaft seal, most likely because the shaft is scored. He puts oil in it all the time.

Point is if your transmission functions you ought to be able to get by one way or another if you can stanch the flow, but you need to determine if your transmission failures have anything in common.
