I'm not sure I would call an Aero "older" though. I took my '87 9kT across the country and back when it had 250k on it and put about 10k on it over the course of a month. It performed great! You’ll be putting 2-3 months worth of driving on the car, so fix anything that you think might go over that time period.
I would also make sure everything is up to date. If things like the thermostat, belt, coolant and hoses have not been changed, now would be a fine time.
There are some common failure items that I always carry. Remember that if you have to order a part, even a simple repair could take days. A plastic clip detached itself from some vacuum hoses and shredded my serpentine belt in the Texas panhandle. I was very glad I had a spare and enough tools to change it road side! I always have a serpentine belt, thermostat, ignition module, and hose patch kit in the spare tire well. I suppose a spare DI would make sense for a newer car, unless you just replaced yours. I’m getting nervous about the fuel pump as my second one is getting near 150k, but that might be some pretty extreme preventative maintenance.
Also be sure to have basic safety equipment, like a flash light, cell phone, basic tools, a warning triangle, and some water. And check the air pressure in your spare.
Besides, the more prepared you are, the less likely you are to need anything. A 9k, especially an Aero, is probably the ultimate open road car, so enjoy the trip!
