Well, just had an episode with another car of mine that the prior owner had some an autostart alarm system put in. Damn thing was autostarting on its own as soon as I hooked up my jumper cables to it. Started looking into it, and of course the hack installer made connections by cutting the insulation away and tapping in on the connection points by twisting the bare wire around it a few times, wrapping it with some electrical tape, and calling it good.
Arrgh! This only reinforces my policy to never take a car in for any kind of installation. Doing this kind of job on a sound system installation is one thing, but to do it on an autostarting alarm system is just plain unthinkable. Just had to vent- ahh, that's better. : )
In water terms, voltage is the pressure, current is the volume of water flowing, and resistance is putting a kink in the hose to restrict the amount of water flow. Easy to visualize in those terms. Capacitance is a holding tank with an inlet and outlet, which stabilizes the flow out from the outlet by maintaining a level pressure, even if the inlet fluctuates.
Inductance is trickier to analogize, maybe a long column of water that maintains its inertia. In pipes, that's what causes water hammer, when a valve tries to shut the flow quickly, but the inertia of the water wants to just keep flowing. That's what is happening in ignition coils to generate a big spike of voltage, by shutting off the valve quickly. Electrons gang up in a little mob trying to push past the admission gates, and the ensuing riot causes the spark that ignites the fuel mixture- :D
