i'm quite sure many of you have bought systems from Crutchfield for you Saab, great company. I've been holding off on replacing my crap clarion system tape/cd system in my CSE, but just haven't seen a CD player go for the right price. I have been also aprehensive trying to figure out how the HK amplifer and everything ties together. If anyone knows and has a wiring harness, it would be Crutchfield. (but they don't).
The claim there is both an 8 speak and 10 speaker system, either "premium" or "prestiage" and both have ALL speakers powered by the HK amp.
The are telling me to cut the wires and just wire any stereo into the exsisting speaker wires (with their help if needed for color choice of wires) but i'm skeptical for two reasons.
1) I'm guessing this is a component system (so when they say ten speakers there are still only the 4 channels of power
2) you cannot just hook a "powered output" to another "amp"...you need preamp outputs. They make no mention of bypassing the amp, but actually using it.
HELP ME FIGURE THIS OUT! as i hate wiring stereos more than an engine redoing a headliner!
here is the email from Crutchfield solutions:
Hello Shawn,
Thanks for your e-mail, and for visiting the Crutchfield web site again.
In regard to your question about upgrading the system in your '95 Saab 9000CSE, I would be happy to help you. However, I'm unfortunately not sure if we've researched the CSE version of this vehicle. Yet, I can explain the extent of our research for the '95 9000 series Saab vehicles, and you may be able to determine whether one of these scenario's describes the audio set-up in your particular vehicle.
The '95 9000 series Saab vehicle's may be equipped with either an 8-speaker "Premium" audio system, a 10-speaker "Prestige" audio system, or an 8-speaker radio delete option. The radio delete option includes no stock radio and does not use a separate amplifier, but is completely pre-wired up to the radio location. Both the "Premium" and "Prestige" systems use an amplifier that powers all of the speakers and is located under the passenger seat. The "Prestige" system adds rear woofers in the rear deck speaker group, and the amplifier in both systems is made by Harman Kardon.
There are essentially two separate factory wiring harnesses connected to the back of the stock radio (three if your vehicle came equipped with a stock CD changer or separate CD player). One of these factory harnesses provides power, and this harness will indeed match the harness we'll send you with your new receiver purchase. Therefore, you'll be able to utilize the Harman Kardon power amplifier.
The other factory harness provides speaker connections, and unfortunately we have no match for this harness. As a result, you'll need to cut the connector off of this factory harness and splice the wires to the corresponding speaker wire leads on your new receiver. Our tech support department has all of the color codes on file for each of the factory speaker wire leads on the stock speaker harness, so they can help you here once you're ready to begin your install
