'97 9K totalled - what to buy next?

Well, about two weeks ago, a guy ran a stop sign and T-boned the passenger side my formerly pristine, 60K mile 9K CSE. The insurance company totalled the car - it was ugly - thay gave me $7800 for it, plus reimbursed me in full for the Pirelli's and Ronal wheels that I installed last month. The 60K service and SAS sway bar install was scheduled for the following day day :-( .
I know I'm probably asking the wrong bunch, here, but I'm wrestling with what to buy as a replacement vehicle. We own a '99 9-5 Wagon (wife) and a '99 9-3 sedan (daughter). I like Saabs, but I'm not keen on the amount of maintenance (repairs) they require. It kills me to think about spending $30-40K on a new car - something that depreciates more than the amount of the payment each month. I haven't made car payments in a very long time, and I'd prefer not to start.
New cars - I've looked at Acura TL and Infiniti G35 - both nice to drive, but not what I'd consider to be 'fun' to drive. Both are stretching the budget. I also test drove a MINI Cooper S, but I'm not convinced that it'll be any less maintenance than the Saabs - it was fun, though. I drive about 25-30K miles/year and I really need reliable, hassle-free, low maintenance transportation. Since I spend so much time in the car, I would like something *fun* to drive. If I could keep it to $15K-ish, that'd be tolerable. Am I dreaming?
So being the un-biased, car enthusiast types that you are, how about some used car recommendations - other than Saab?
TIA.
