My indy (the shop owner) says he can get a heater core out in about 30-40 mins from start to out. His #1 guy is not as fast--more like an hour, I think. He's impressed at how fast the owner can get the core out.
DK about reinstalling.
I do think they evacuate and remove the AC evaporator unit to give them all the room possible.
He says it's just practice and technique. he's a had dealer techs take a long time and really wrestle with it. But he figures he's done it a couple hundred times, so maybe that gives him an edge.
