I'm at the point of re-installing everything. Getting the blower assembly back in was surprisingly easier than I had anticipated since getting it out was a bitch. One note: you must have the heater hoses completely out of the way as you need every inch of space to get that monstrosity of an assembly maneuvered into position. I installed the heater hoses first by mistake and then had to take them back out.
Now the freakin' dilemma I'm having: seems the replacement heater hoses I purchased from a site sponsor are cheaper than oem, but they are slightly thicker, making there be less room for tight clearances. The clamps at the heater core end will not tighten because the excess part of the metal band-part of the clamp either gets caught up on the other hose or other clamp. I have had to remove those hoses 6 times, using all sorts of combinations of clamps to get 2 that will work in unison at that end. What I finally wound up doing was using one of those "squeeze-tight" ones (you use pliers with) on the bottom hose and a regular type on the top one. Now I'm trying to use the other "squeeze-tight" one at the false bulkhead connection (where they originally were) and cannot get it to budge up along the hose due to friction and lack of clearance. Needless to say, I'm usually even-keeled when the going gets rough, but I might as well have signed up for the Navy with the sailor-mouth I have had going on. Don't also forget that there is no room for your body during this task. I'm lucky enough to be small-statured, and have been using a board across the top of the engine to kneel on, but my knees are definitely not enjoying this position at all.
This truly is a PITA job. I can only hope I will NEVER have to go in there again. I think I'd throw the car away at that point if the need ever arose...
