Thank you, Matt. I will look around for a dash cover...sounds like a good solution.
I agree about the propensity to fix the car myself, although I suspect that my abilities lack far behind most everybody here. Yet another reason why I have so appreciated the patient guidance from friends willing to educate.
Also, regarding the self-replacement of the DIC, when I went to my Saab mechanics to repair the problems I was having, it cost me a couple of hundred dollars and they didn't fix the problem! The symptoms remained completely. They changed the fuel filter and changed the oil...looked at the spark plugs and said they were fine and dandy. And I wasted a day having driven my car out there (about 20 miles away or so), left it overnight, remained without a car for the next day, and returned to retrieve it. All of this with an infant in tow.
So...yeah...I wish I'd just fixed it myself. I did a better job than my $85 per hour Saab mechanics. Nice guys, though. :)
Thanks again.
Julia
