Considering a Subaru -> Saab 9000 switch

I am now seriously considering selling off my troubled 1998 Subaru Legacy L wagon in favor of a 1996-98 Saab 9000. There are several reasons: they both have approximately the same resale value so this wouldn't cost me very much, I'd be making a step up in safety, performance, and luxury, and the back seat in the 9000 is much wider and can accomodate more car seats + people. Our other car is my wife's 2001 9-5 wagon and we freq. have 2 adults+one car seat in the back, which is impossible in the Subaru. Additionally a good-running 9000 will get better mileage than my Subaru, which does 20 mpg on the highway (despite many attempts at repair).
Downside: I know the Subaru and its quirks, and it's never failed me yet (other than a total tranny rebuild...grr) in my 25 mile/day commute.
Does anyone have any opinion on this? The 9000 would have to be an auto since my wife refuses to even consider a stick and she'll occasionally drive it. Some battles aren't worth fighting and she's promised me a c900 once we own a house ;-)
I've found a listing for a 1996 CSE 4-cyl with a new tranny, 118k miles, for $3400...at that price difference over what I should be able to get for the Legacy I could spring for a Racelogic traction control system for even better winter handling...
