We also have an '01 9-5 wagon, which replaced a '95 CSE which was wrecked. I drive a '91 9kt. The back seat in the 9000 is a couple of inches wider than that of the 9-5, but more importantly, the seat belt in the middle position is wider. We had trouble finding a narrow enough car seat to fit the middle position in the 9-5. In the 9000, no problem.
I also think the 9000 drives better than the 9-5. A few weeks ago my wife did one of those "turn in at the next driveway" things to me, while I was driving her 9-5 at about 50 mph on a rural highway. It would have been no problem in the 9000, if the car occupants didn't mind a little rough treatment, but the 9-5 didn't have the braking responsiveness nor the steering stability to pull it off. I had to abandon the maneuver, as it looked like it would end in disaster if I continued.
