I recently replaced the stereo in a 94 Aero with a HK unit out of a 96 because I was having the same problems with the CD's coming out hot. The HK is a huge improvement. I replaced the entire setup, head unit, cd player, amp, and all speakers.
The 94 stereo is a unique setup. The head unit powers the front speakers and the rear speakers are powered thru the amp under the passanger seat. The HK system sounds much better, all speakers are powered thru the amp. The rear speakers have two wires going to them, one for the 6x9 subwoofers, and the other for the midrange and tweeters. You should probably replace everything, head unit, amp, and speakers.
