Find out exactly what a salvage title means in your state. It could mean that you can't get a tag to drive it unless you jump through some major hoops.
If the car is hit that hard, I would let it go. It will never be the same once its repaired and usually, the cost of repair will go up once they start digging in there.
I would follow the advice of others on this site and beat them up on the value of the car. Go online to the various car value sites (NADA, etc) and show them the highest ones.
If you convince them to pay the high book value value for your car, you can easily replace your car for that amount as 9ks sell for well below book.
