Thanks again for the good vibes. I think I'll counter his offer and go for it.

The mechanic said that it's not a good idea to use synthetic oil once the car is used to regular oil. I know everyone here seems to like synthetic oil. Is this accurate?

The mechanic also said the DI cassette is bad or failing. I didn't notice on normal freeway driving but did feel it miss when I jumped on it. Is this something that I could do myself? The Saab dealer wants $650.00 for the DI and plugs. I can buy the DI online for about $330.00. Also, can I drive the car with the DI in that condition?

The mechanic said he couldn't really tell what the "ticking" sound was, but didn't think it was the engine.
