So I took the car to a local euro mech and he said that he's 100% positive that my mystery noise is coming from my torque converter...
He said I need a new torque converter, but I reminded him that it's a brand new torque converter and the noise is the same as the noise from the old torque converter...
He could not explain why my new torque converter (with new tranny) would make exactly the same noise as my old torque converter (from old tranny).
But this does, apparently, verify that I had correctly pinpointed the source area of the noise which led me to replace transmission/torque converter.
Now, the question is, WHAT DO I DO??
I'm relieved it isn't my engine making the noise, but what could make a brand new torque converter be out of balance or otherwise somehow create this noise?
The old torque converter bolts were almost impossible to get loose, so it's not like the old t.c. was loose on the flywheel. Flywheel was tight, originally, I tightened according to spec.
The noise has been generally getting louder since at least last October when I first noticed it. It's an irregular hum, from, it now seems, the torque converter. It's louder now that it was when i first installed new tranny... about 800 miles ago.
Inside the car, this irregular hum gets magnified into a dd-dd-dd-dd-dd.
Anyone ?? Should I drive the car??
